Getting Started with ChargeLogic Payments for Dynamics 365 for Financials

  • Before you set up ChargeLogic Notify, you must configure the SMTP Mail settings in Dynamics 365 for Financials. Select the Company Settings action on the ribbon on the Dynamics 365 for Financials Home page. Then, click on the SMTP Mail Setup action and complete the configuration if you have not already done so.

From the Dynamics 365 for Financials Home page, click the Company Settings action in the ribbon to open the Company Information page.

On the Navigate ribbon of the Company Information page, click the Setup action and select ChargeLogic Notify Setup from the list.

Enter the name and e-mail address from which you want your notifications to be sent from. We recommend that you enable activity logging so that you will be able to see the success or failure of your notifications. ChargeLogic Notify can send e-mail automatically when certain events occur in Dynamics 365 for Financials. It is common to enable automatic notifications for Shipments, Invoices, Return Receipts, and Credit Memos.

Click the Sales Templates action in the ribbon.

ChargeLogic Notify comes pre-populated with templates for Dynamics 365 for Financials sales activities. The Sales E-Mail Templates page allows you to define which templates are assigned to each Customer. In the Sales Type field, you can select All Customers to assign templates to all Customers in the system. Then, you can choose specific Customers or Customer Groups to assign alternate templates to.

From the E-Mail Setup page, click the E-Mail Templates action in the ribbon to open the Template List.

From the Template List, you can create new templates, delete a template, or edit an existing template. Select the COMPANYNAME template and click the Edit action in the ribbon.

E-Mail templates can be customized and copied. To copy a template, click Copy from Template… on the ribbon. This can be used to easily customize templates without having to recreate them entirely. Each template references a Source Table, such as the Sales Header, which is specified on the General FastTab.

Each line of the template is of the Type Constant, Field, Template, Calculation, Address, New Line or Attachment. Select Constant to hard code content and styles into the template. Select Field to bring in data from a NAV field from this template’s source table. Select Template to bring in a sub-template such as Sales Lines. Sub-templates can also include template lines. Select Calculation to bring in a particular calculation that is not available as a field in NAV, such as the Tax Amount sample provided by ChargeLogic. Select Address to bring in a formatted address from address fields in the template source table. Select New Line to force a return to a new line. Note that white space is ignored in HTML, so if you want a line break in the output, use an HTML tag. Select Attachment to attach a document to the e-mail notification.

The Lines FastTab has a ribbon with functions available for the selected template line.

Template Link links a sub-template or a Calculation with the source table for the document. This functionality applies to Line Types of Template and Calculation. For the Template type, the link will be executed once for each matching record in the link (e.g., document lines can be linked to a parent template and the line template will be run for each line). For Calculations, if there are multiple records returned by the link, the aggregate functions will kick in for the Calculation.

Template View filters the content shown on the e-mail notification. For example, you may want the sales items shown on a notification, but not any associated G/L accounts or resources. Template Views apply to Template and Calculation Line Types.

Conditions allows conditions to be set on the lines of the templates. For example, an e-mail notification may be addressed to the Bill-to Contact, but a condition may be set that if a Bill-to Contact name does not exist, the Company name may be substituted instead. This applies to any Line Type; the line will only output if all conditions are met.

Substitutions can be set to substitute data for a particular string, such as listing the Order Number on the notification everywhere the template shows “%1.”

Finally, add the ChargeLogic Notify Permission Sets to the appropriate User Groups. From the Dynamics 365 for Financials Home page, select Company Settings from the ribbon to open the Company Information page. Click the Users action in the ribbon to open the Users list. Then click Permission Set by User Group on the ribbon. Assign the NOTIFY-SETUP Permission Set to User Groups that should be allowed to modify setup data like templates. Assign the NOTIFY-GENERAL Permission Set to User Groups that should be allowed to send e-mail notifications. This includes Sales-related User Groups.
