Estimated reading time: 5 min

Introduction

ChargeLogic Shipping comes with a setup wizard to help you get up and running faster. The first step is to run the Setup Wizard. From the Dynamics 365 Business Central home page, click the “Run the Setup Wizard” link in the ChargeLogic Shipping activities pane under Get Started. If this is not a new installation, you may see additional cues in the ChargeLogic Shipping activities pane instead of the Get Started group. If you don’t see “Run the Setup Wizard”, click the Search icon and enter “ChargeLogic Shipping Setup Wizard” in the search box or click on the ChargeLogic Shipping link in the Assisted Setup List.

Welcome

This will open the ChargeLogic Shipping Setup Wizard. The Wizard will guide you through the process of setting up the software. Please read the instructional text on each Wizard step so that you can make the best decisions for your company. Click Next to continue.

Local Settings

The system needs to know where your company is located and what your country’s local currency is. If you are in the United States, enter “USD” in the first field for the Currency ISO Code, “USA” in the second field for the Local ISO Code, and “$” in the last field for the LCY Symbol. If you are in Canada, enter “CAD” in the first field for the Currency ISO Code, “CAN” in the second field for the Local ISO Code, and “$” in the last field for the LCY Symbol. If you are located elsewhere, use the lookups to select your ISO Codes. Click Next when you are finished.

Country Settings

Dynamics 365 Business Central allows you to define countries with which you do business. ChargeLogic Shipping needs to know the international standard code for each country defined in Dynamics 365 Business Central. If you are using the default country definitions, the Wizard will assign the ISO Country Codes for you. Even if the Wizard has automatically filled in the ISO Codes, please review these settings to make sure that everything looks right. If you need to make any changes, you can use the lookup in the ISO Country Code field to select an international standard code from a list. Click Next when you are finished.

Currency Settings

Dynamics 365 Business Central allows you to define the currencies in which you transact. ChargeLogic Shipping needs to know the international standard code for each currency defined in Dynamics 365 Business Central. If you are using the default currency definitions, the Wizard will assign the ISO Currency Codes for you. Even if the Wizard has automatically filled in the ISO Codes, please review these settings to make sure that everything looks right. If you need to make any changes, you can use the lookup in the ISO Currency Code field to select an international standard code from a list. Click Next when you are finished.

Unit of Measure Settings

For reporting purposes, ChargeLogic Shipping needs to know the international standard code for the Units of Measure defined in your Dynamics 365 Business Central system. Because this information is only used for reporting, you can enter “PCE” into the ISO Code field for any Unit of Measure that you can’t find an appropriate code for in the lookup. If you leave the ISO Code field blank, the Wizard will automatically fill in “PCE” when you click Next. When you are finished selecting ISO Codes for Units of Measure, click Next.

Language Settings

Dynamics 365 Business Central allows you to define languages in which you do business. ChargeLogic Shipping needs to know the international standard code for each language defined in Dynamics 365 Business Central. If you are using the default language definitions, the Wizard will assign the ISO Country Codes for you. Even if the Wizard has automatically filled in the ISO Codes, please review these settings to make sure that everything looks right. If you need to make any changes, you can use the lookup in the ISO Code field to select an international standard code from a list. Click Next when you are finished.

Weight and Length Settings

When entering numeric weights and lengths into Dynamics 365 Business Central, the units are implied. Select which units the system should associate with weights and lengths and click Next to continue.

Automation Settings

Posting Sales Orders in Dynamics 365 Business Central can be a one-step or a two-step process. When using a two-step posting process, Shipments and Invoices are posted separately. Set the Source Document Posting option to Ship to use a two-step process or set it to Ship and Invoice to use a one-step process. If you set it to Ship, after the Shipment is posted and the shipping labels are printed, the Sales Order will still need to be Posted again to generate the Invoice.

Additionally, if you usually know which Shipping Agent and Service you will be using and do not typically Rate Shop to select a Service, you can check the Auto-Calc. Freight on Release field to automatically add a freight charge to your Sales Orders based on the selected Service when the Sales Order is Released, Approved, or Posted.

Click Next to continue.

Number Series Settings

When creating Shipments in Dynamics 365 Business Central, each Shipment has an identifier assigned to it using a Number Series. You can select which Number Series to use for Shipments or you can leave the Shipment Nos. field blank and the Wizard will create one for you called SHIP. When you are finished, click Next.

Item Category Settings

When generating a Rate Quote for Shipments, the software needs to know the approximate size and weight of each item on the Sales Order. You can specify this information on each Item Card, but sometimes specifying it by Item Category is sufficient for Rate Quote purposes. If you can, approximate the Length, Width, Height, and Weight of Items in each listed Item Category. Click Next to continue.

Location Settings

If you are using the Locations feature of Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can specify that when shipping from specific Locations, Sales Orders must be Packed before they can be Posted. Check the Require Packing field for each Location that meets this criterion. When you are finished, click Next.

Sales Line Settings

When charging your customers for freight on a Sales Order, the system will automatically add a line to the order. This line can be of any valid Sales Line Type. For each Shipping Agent Service, select a Type and No. that you would like the system to use for freight charges. You can use the Set All Line Types and Set All Line Nos. fields to do this quickly if you want the same settings for each Shipping Agent Service. Note that using a Type of Resource is common. Click Next to continue.

Account Setup

You can now tell the Wizard about Accounts for each Shipping Agent that you use. Some Shipping Agents like UPS and FedEx have a Registration Wizard that will launch when you click the Create Account link. For other Shipping Agents, you can specify your Account information on the Shipping Agent Account Card that will appear when you click the Create Account link. Once your Accounts are created, set the Default Account No. field to the Account that you will be using most of the time for each Shipping Agent (or set to your only Account if you just have one). Click Next to continue.

Test Mode Settings

Some Shipping Agents, like UPS, allow you to operate in Test mode, which gives you the opportunity to try generating shipping labels without the risk of getting billed. However, not all Shipping Agents support Test mode. If you would like to try Test Mode, check the box. If you want to change this setting later, you can either run the Setup Wizard again or go to the Shipping Setup page. When you are finished, click Next.

Finish

Congratulations! ChargeLogic Shipping is ready to use. You can re-run the Wizard at any time by searching for “ChargeLogic Shipping Setup Wizard” in the Dynamics 365 Business Central search box. Click Finish to close the Wizard.

Permission Sets

Add the ChargeLogic Shipping Permission Sets to the appropriate User Groups. From the Dynamics 365 Business Central Home page, select Company Settings from the ribbon to open the Company Information page. Click the Users action in the ribbon to open the Users list. Then click Permission Set by User Group on the ribbon. Assign the SHIPPING-SETUP Permission Set to User Groups that should be allowed to modify setup data like shipping accounts and services. Assign the SHIPPING-GENERAL Permission Set to User Groups that should be allowed to process shipments and rate shop. This includes Sales-related User Groups.
